Dr. John Cello is a renowned expert in gastrointestinal disorders and bariatric medicine. He is the medical director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at UCSF Medical Center and director of Medical Education in Gastroenterology at San Francisco General Hospital. He cares for patients with gastrointestinal disorders at both San Francisco General Hospital and UCSF. He is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Cello earned a medical degree at Harvard University with high honors and completed a residency in internal medicine at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston and a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCSF. His research addresses new treatments for gastrointestinal disorders, including bleeding and morbid obesity. He has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Educator Award from both the American Gastroenterology Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a member the American College of Physicians, California Academy of Medicine, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Western Society for Clinical Investigation. He is a professor of medicine and surgery at UCSF.
